“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.” — Alan Cohen

We need rest to live, that’s a fact but it’s easy to forget. We remember to sleep because our bodies tell us but we also need rest throughout the day. As we already discussed in the previous blog, rest is not sleep. According to sleep.org “rest is defined as behavior aimed at increasing physical and mental well-being” and “helps us recover from physical and mental effort”.

We need both rest and sleep each day. You likely have sleep covered (though if you are like most people you could stand to sleep a little bit more than you currently do 😉). That aside, rest is most definitely an area we all need to reevaluate and revise. Among others things, rest ties into reducing stress and anxiety, topics we have discussed before on the blog.

And as I mentioned, we would all benefit from reflecting on how we “rest”, making the necessary “adjustments” to our rest methods. It is important for our wellbeing that we MAKE the time to rest, truly rest. It should not be something we put off. How will you make time in your day for rest?

If you’re looking for a way to find rest in your day I’d love for you to join me Sunday evenings for Yoga Nidra. You can attend virtually from the comforts of your home and give your body an incredible gift of rest. Namaste.
