Making Progress - Tips for Being More Consistent

Let’s start by being honest with ourselves. Change is often hard, especially when we are talking about changing our habits. I have always been an advocate of taking small, steady steps toward the direction you want to change to, and consistency is the key ingredient to making that change happen over the long haul. But what can you do to become more consistent?

In today’s world, it is easy to get sidetracked from the direction we want to move, to fall back into old habits.

Can we find and keep more consistency in our daily practices, especially when it comes to working on our goals? If this is an area in which you struggle, here are some top tips to help you out:

  • Make sure your goals are specific and realistic from the start. (Don’t be afraid to revisit your goals and make adjustments as needed so they are more specific and realistic).
  • Create a schedule around tasks for your goals.
  • Set up reminders on your devices and in your home (new habits need reminders!!)
  • Be realistic in your commitments and be honest with yourself about what you are really willing to do on any given day.
  • Consider small rewards for when you reach certain benchmarks along the way.
  • If you make a mistake or get off track, forgive yourself and start again the next day – every day is a new opportunity to move forward so don’t dwell on the negative.
  • Make use of an accountability partner or other motivational tools to help keep you focused and moving forward.
  • Hold yourself accountable too – if you want these goals, then hold yourself accountable to the tasks you said you would do to make them happen.

Remember, small steps forward every day. When in doubt, remind yourself why you chose these goals in the first place. Go back to those things that inspire and motivate you and build up that consistency muscle. You’ve got this – 2024 goals, here we come! Namaste.
